ในปัจจุบัน อัตราการเกิดอาชญากรรมรุนแรงในประเทศไทยมีแนวโน้มที่น่าเป็นห่วง โดยเฉพาะคดีฆาตกรรม มีแนวโน้มที่เพิ่มขึ้นอย่างเห็นได้ชัด เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมและแรงจูงใจของผู้กระทำผิด เพื่อให้เข้าใจถึงปัจจัยที่ทำให้คนตัดสินใจก่อเหตุ จึงออกแบบหนังสือที่ให้ความรู้เบื้องต้นทฤษฎีอาชญาวิทยา และ เพื่อเป็นสื่อเสริมการเรียนการสอนอาชญาวิทยา ที่กำลังศึกษาทฤษฎีอาชญาวิทยา โดยหยิบยกกรณีศึกษาจากคดีฆาตกรรม 3 คดีมาวิเคราะห์ เพื่อช่วยให้นักศึกษาและผู้อ่านทั่วไปสามารถทำความเข้าใจทฤษฎีอาชญาวิทยาผ่านเหตุการณ์จริง
